The next city is Tineghir famous for its beautiful palm grove called Todra, Its name originally referred to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. After 12 km along the valley we get to Todra gorges, known for rock climbing. We will stop for lunch in a restaurant in Todra Gorges. Possibility to have a walk in the palm grove…. In the afternoon we return to Ouarzazate.
Ouarzazate Studios and Kasbah Ait Benhadou & Telouet:
Aït Benhaddou is an ighrem (fortified village), along the former caravan route between the former region of Sudan and Marrakesh in present-day Morocco. Most citizens attracted by the tourist trade live in more modern dwellings in a village on the other side of the river, although there are four families still living in the ancient village. Inside the walls of the ksar are half a dozen or merchant’s houses and other individual dwellings, and is a great example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture. Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou also serve as the perfect movie set for famous movies such as: Prince of Persia, A Man who would be king, Gladiator, Son Of God, Kundun and many more.
Telouet is a Kasbah along the former road of the caravans from the former region of Sudan over the High Atlas Mountains to the present day Marrakesh. It was the seat of the former war-lord of El Glaoui Family. The Kasbah might appear ruined from the outside but still lavishly decorated from inside. Have lunch in the Kasbah. Back to Ouarzazate.
